How to Keep Going When You Want To Quit

Business-Building Action From Terry Brock

Life can be tough at times. Successful business people know that. It can sometimes get really draining and sometimes we don’t know how to move forward.

Anyone who has lived in the real world for a while knows there are many times when it is really tough. We all know there are times when we feel slapped around and it feels like it is impossible to get back up and go at it again.

There’s an old saying that says, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” This has been attributed to both Joseph Kennedy, father of President John F. Kennedy, and to American football player, Knute Rockne. Who ever said it, I think it’s a good idea. You might have head the Billy Ocean song with this title.

We all go through those times when we want to throw up our hands and quit. This is normal. However, the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is that those who succeed become more resourceful and find ways to keep going no matter what.

Here’s some pointers that can help you so that you are ready to move forward whatever comes along.

1. Always be prepared for a variety of outcomes. This adage is very important to succeed. I would also further say that we need to constantly be in a state of preparing. I don’t know about you, but some of my greatest challenges come right after I’ve had a success. After the success comes I want to get lazy, sit back, and take it easy. This is a dangerous time and many people will succumb to the problems. Successful people know that they must constantly prepare by looking at what the environment is today versus what it was like before. They read, they learn new material, they continually find ways to better themselves. This is the best form of preparation.

2. Make your training as much as possible like what you will encounter in real life. The Russians have a saying, “ Тяжело в обучении, легко в бою.” which means “Hard in training, easy in battle.” This reminds me of what US Navy SEAL team 6 founder, Richard Marcinko, has said.”The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle.” Successful people make it a point to create training practices that push them to the limit. This extra push will help bring out the best in them.

3. Discover what matters and focus on that. Today it is very easy today to get distracted with all of the great tools available in social media. Tools in social media can help you in business. However you got to exercise stringent self-control. Always ask yourself the question “Is this the best thing for me to do now?”

4.Keep your goal in sight. It was the philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche who said, “Develop your why & you can bear almost any how.” A worthwhile goal serves as the fuel that you need to drive your engine toward success. Keep your goal in mind and focus on what moves you forward.

5. Hang around the right people and avoid the wrong people. Associate with people who will inspire you and educate you. Successful people build alliances with key supporters around the world through regular video connections. Get to know technologies that help you stay in touch with important people. Make it your practice to continually develop good relationships.

You don’t have to give up when the going gets tough. Life will be tough at times. By embracing these success principles you can do more than just “get going.” You can succeed!
